Korina Kordova is a dancer, choreographer and performer. She’s currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Home of Performance Practices (HoPP) program at ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem, Netherlands. Her works have been presented in Brazil, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and in the Netherlands in such contexts as Festival Tanztage (Berlin), Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, TanzArt Ostwest (Giessen), Art Stations Foundation (Poznań), Teatr Studio (Warsaw), Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art (Warsaw), Dança no MIS – Museum of Image and Sound in São Paulo, Mostra PARALELA (Uberlândia), Mostra Cult Dance (Brasília,) a.o. Started her dance training in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1991. Graduated in Journalism from Faculdade de Comunicação Social Cásper Líbero in 2000. As a dancer/performer, she worked with Silesian Dance Theatre (PL) from 2005 to 2011. Has also collaborated with Kokoro Dance (CAN), BalletMet (USA), Samovarteateret (NO), Dance Theatre Zawirowania (PL), Via Negativa (SLO) and Cia. Corpos Nômades (BR). Worked with choreographers and/or directors Isabelle Schad (DE), Idan Cohen (ISR), Irad Mazliah (ISR), João Andreazzi (BR), Bojan Jablanovec (SLO), Jacek Łumiński (PL), Marta Ziółek (PL), Anna Piotrowska (PL), Farid Fairuz (RO), Kuik Swee Boon (SGP), Suzana Gomes (NL/BR), Hilke Diemer (NL), Ramona Nagabczyńska (PL), Joanna Lesnierówska (PL), Renata Piotrowska-Auffret (PL), Helena Ganjalyan (PL), Anita Wach (PL), Bente Andersen (NO) and Ana Borralho (PT), a.o. She has performed in several countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
In 2012 she started the collective “Flesh System” with dancer/choreographer Przemek Kamiński (PL/DE) with the objective of creating a platform for their collaboration as well as of welcoming other artists. They collaborated with dance dramaturg Mateusz Szymanówka on a regular basis. She’s a co-founder of Centrum w Ruchu/ Center in Motion – an association of choreographers based in Warsaw.
She was a scholarship holder at the “Alternative Dance Academy 2012” at Old Brewery New Dance, Art Stations Foundation by Grazyna Kulczyk in Poznań (PL), where she was also an artist-in-residence in the frame of the program Solo Project 2013. During the year-long creation residency, she created a solo work under the mentorship of Bush Hartshorn (UK). She participated as a choreographer in Choreo Lab – Zurich/Warsaw, a project between Tanzhaus Zurich (CH) and Center in Motion (PL), directed by Andrea Boll and supported by Pro-Helvetia.
In 2014 she collaborated with visual artist Wlodek Zakrzewski (PL) in a spin-off video of the sound installation Alice in the Saxon Garden, at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art (Warsaw). In 2015 she collaborated with Polish theatre directors Agata Dyczko and Anna KarasIńska as a choreographer/ movement director in theatre plays and a performative reading. In 2015 she initiated the research project what moves them with the dance dramaturg Mateusz Szymanówka as part of “Center in Process” – a “Center in Motion” project financed by the city of Warsaw. She was a collaborator in the opening of “Kem Warsaw” – a space for feminist and queer projects dedicated to new choreography and performance initiated by the artist Alex Baczynski-Jenkins (PL/UK). She was an artist-in-residence at Centro de Referência da Dança da Cidade de São Paulo between 2017 and 2019.
She also facilitates workshops and classes of dance and improvisation. Collaborated with the Studio of Physical Theatre in Bytom (PL) from 2006 to 2011, where she taught contemporary dance and improvisation and co-created the pieces Elektrokosmos (2008) and Cranes (2009) with Polish actress and director Ewa Zawada. She has experience teaching contemporary dance and improvisation in international festivals in Poland (Bytom, Lublin, Warsaw), in projects organized by the Silesian Dance Theatre and Center in Motion, as well as regular dance training and movement research sessions in Poland and Brazil. In September 2020 she led a week-long collective research with a group of third-year students from the ArtEZ Bachelor of Dance programme. They engaged in movement practices, theoretical discussions, improvisation sessions and score writing proposed from the perspective of Korina’s Amazonizing Practices research project and closed the process with an open presentation.
